2007.07.02 - New w3t.org/Pic.gs FireFox Add-on
Pic.gs just got easier! With our new FireFox add-on, you can just right-click on an image on any site and choose "Create pic.gs Short URL" to get the code to repost that image on your own site, forums, MySpace, etc. If you have Firefox, install the add-on and enjoy!
Also, I would like to annouce the launch of a new site for all your image URLs: Pic.gs. Just drop an image URL in and it will create a new short image url at the Pic.gs domain!
2007.05.08 - 2 Million Views and Pic.gs!
First, I know it's been a while and I'm proud to say that we've had over TWO MILLION URL views since the site went live, so keep using the service and tell your friends. We've been around 2 years now and plan on tons more.
Also, I would like to annouce the launch of a new site for all your image URLs: Pic.gs. Just drop an image URL in and it will create a new short image url at the Pic.gs domain!
2006.02.08 - 25,000!
w3t.org has now shortened over 25,000 URLs in the time we've been online. Also, so far this year, we're getting close to breaking last year's traffic/url/visitor numbers and it's only mid-February!
Thanks, everyone for using the service and passing it on to friends. And remember, I want to make this site the best out there, so if you have suggestions, let me know.
2006.01.27 - Even SHORTER and ToS
We rewrote some code and now your shortened URLs are even shorter. If you have existing links, feel free to change them as follows:
http://w3t.org/?u=xxx is now http://w3t.org/u/xxx
http://w3t.org/?c=xxx is now http://w3t.org/c/xxx
But down't worry. All the old URLs still work.
Also, we've added our Terms of Service, so be sure to read through that page. In short, it tells you not to be an idiot with our service or we'll give you a bunch of paper cuts and pour lemon juice on them. Along with the ToS, we added a link on the page your URL visitors hit that will allow them to report your URL if you decide to be an idiot, so just don't do it.
2005.09.28 - Take it with you
Remeber, FireFox users, you can still simply click and drag this link to your toolbar : w3t it!
IE users: Right-click on this link and choose "Add to favorites": w3t it!
If you get a security warning, click OK. That shows up only because the link contains javascript.
In the window that pops up, if you don't see a list of folders, click "Create in >>>" and choose the "Links" folder. Now you should see a link on your links toolbar called "w3t it!".
2005.09.27 - v.0.2 and 5,000 URLs!
The w3t URL Shortener v.0.2 FireFox extension was released yesterday, and some time overnight, we passed the 5,000 URL mark.
2005.09.20 - Oops
Unfortunately, a small code mistake resulted in me having to delete 120 URLs that were entered between in the last 12 hours. I am very sorry for any problems this may have caused. The problem has been corrected.
2005.09.19 - Custom Tags!
The site-generated url identifiers are great if you're just going to copy the short url into an email or blog and never need it again, but what about a short URL you want to use over and over again? Maybe you need a short URL for your website and need to be able to remember it? Now, you can create your own custom tag to identify your URL. For example, if you were eBay, you might want http://w3t.org/?c=ebay.
Try it out, today!
2005.09.15
Today marks the release of the w3t.org FireFox extension. If you use FireFox, you should go download it now.
With the extension, you can shorten urls as you come across them without having to copy, open a new window, and paste like the old days.
